Like I said earlier, Ivory Coast has more than 60 ethnic groups. Each group produces its own beautiful masks and statues which appear among the most highly works of the market of African art now. Generally, the country doesn’t have a specific custom because each ethnic group has its own customs, rites and events which are different; for this reason the country event calendar is very full. In fact each day in Ivory Coast is a new celebration in the country, so don’t let nothing stop you to discover, interact with Ivorian and enjoy yourself with the country beauty during one of the celebrations.

In the villages, the traditional spirit still lives. In fact, each village has a chief who is considered by the members as a God. For this reason, when visitors want to go there, he has to be invited by a village chief or take an appointment with him. Also all Ivorian families eat with their hands, For me this is the only thing which can be considered as a specific custom of Ivory Coast.

In Ivory Coast we usually found extended family in which only the man has the first position as a chief. In fact the marriage in Ivory Coast is more a union between two families than between two persons for increase the members of these families. Generally a family in Ivory Coast is composed of  the husband and more than two wives with children because of the predominance of the polygamy. In fact, in one house lives a man with his wives and multiple children who usually don’t go to school and have to look for a poor job to take care of the family. Sometimes in addition to his wives and children, we can find in the same house the husband parents or brothers too.
